Union of parishes of Cepães and Fareja
Until the liberal reforms of the 19th century. Xix, Cepães had the status of honor, privileged territory of a lord, which was extinguished by the decree of November 6, 1836, when it passed to the municipality of Fafe.
There are already traces of human occupation in the territory of Cepães, patents in pre- and proto-historical monuments, namely a fortified stronghold of the Iron Age (the castro da Retortinha).
Cepães was once a passing locality of the railway that connected Fafe to Guimarães, and now this is the connection of the cycle tourism track.
On May 19, 2013, the Museum of N. S. de Guadalupe – Memórias de S. Mamede de Cepães was inaugurated in front of the parish church.
It was the defunct parish headquarters in 2013, as part of a national administrative reform, to, together with Fareja, form a new parish called Union of Parishes of Cepães and Fareja.
Fareja is located about 6.5 km from the county seat, bordering Guimarães and Felgueiras, in a fertile region and large rural properties. To highlight in the parish, on top of a hill, from where you can see a stunning panorama, the existence of the Convent of Santa Cruz, where in the middle of the last century masses and preaching were celebrated.
Fareja has an area of 3.22 km² and 855 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census.
