Primeiro a 5ª Companhia da Guarda Municipal e depois a Guarda Nacional Republicana que aqui esteve sediada ocupando o espaço do antigo Convento que tinha aquela mesma designação, Lóios, edificação religiosa nascida ali corria o longínquo séc. XIII. O convento, fundado pelo 10º bispo de Lisboa, D. Domingos Jardo, tomou o nome de Santo Elói tendo depois dado acolhimento aos cónegos seculares de São João Evangelista e São Clemente. Um convento que de pequeno se tornou grande e dominou toda a colina. Sofreu ao longo da sua vida muitos incêndios, mas foi sempre reconstruído pela vontade dos homens e preces divinas. Com o terramoto o convento foi mais uma vez derrubado, e os seus escombros lá permanecem sob os nossos pés, mais de 7 metros de entulho que repousam no chão, sepultando as rezas e os desejos de tantos e tantos homens.
