The tower is a solid military turret with square lines, which served as a lookout and prison point, and later the houses were built around the tower and became a dwelling house for the nobles of the Torre da Lagariça.
The tower would have as its objective the defense of the Douro line at the time of the Christian reconquest, serving as a watchtower, but its military function lost its meaning with the establishment of the northernmost borders.
In the eighteenth century. In the 16th century, the Torre da Lagariça was acquired by the Brasonada Pinto family, lords of the Torre da Chá and the Paço de Covelas.
