Center of the Parish of Lomba da Maia
Lomba da Maia is an Azorean rural parish in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, with 20.47 km² of area and 1,152 inhabitants (2011), which corresponds to a population density of 56.3 inhabitants / km ².
It is located in the central region of the north coast of the island of São Miguel in one of the most important dairy cattle breeding area of the Azores, confronts to the north with the sea, to the east and west respectively with the parishes of Fenais da Ajuda and Maia (both of the municipality of Ribeira Grande) and to the south with the parish of Furnas (municipality of Povoação).
In addition to the town of Lomba da Maia, the parish includes the place of Burguete. The toponym Lomba da Maia derives from the locality being located on a ridge overlooking the parish of Maia.
