Among other grape varieties, Pinot Noir prefers sunburnt terroir rich in limestone scree; however, this terroir of an ideal composition is found in the Salquenen / Salgesch basin, formed following a landslide from the Varone mountain. This landslide, which occurred between 5000 and 7000 BC, gave the vineyard its incomparable terroir, which is normally only found from an altitude of 1200 to 1800 meters.
